Fall and Winter Tips for Saving Energy

Follow these tips to save on energy costs during the fall and winter months.

  1. Thermostat
Set back your thermostat to the lowest setting that is comfortable for you. Doing this simple task will save you 10% in energy costs.
  2. Unplug!
Electronic devices like phone chargers, gaming systems, table lamps etc. will eat up a ton of energy when you aren’t using them! Unplug devices you aren’t using to save on energy costs.
  3. Cover Drafty Windows.
Check your windows for drafts. You can cover them with insulating curtains or shades. You might also have to invest in new windows if a lot of heat is escaping and cold air being pushed in.
  4. Fireplaces
Keep your fireplace clean and check for places where air may be escaping. You may need to seal your chimney. If you have a wood burning fireplace, it’s a good idea to consider switching to gas
  5. Air registers
Don’t block air registers with things like furniture or else heat won’t be able to circulate throughout the room which will make your system run longer. Also be sure that air vents are clean and free of dust.
  6. Humidifier
Keeping your homes humidity up in the winter will keep warm air trapped in the area longer!
  7. Heat From the Sun
Open curtains on windows that get the most sun coming in. The warmth from the sun will naturally help put some warmth into the room.
